Hey Cellists!

I’m Mea — a lifelong cellist, creative coach, and the founder of CelloYoga™, a program designed to help adult learners play with more confidence, joy, and self-expression.

I started playing cello at age five and spent years in traditional classical training. I studied cello performance at the University of Toronto with internationally acclaimed cellists Shauna Rolston, Winona Zelenka & Simon Fryer.  I have also  attended masterclasses with world-famous musicians  including Yo-Yo Ma and members of the St Lawrence String Quartet.

But despite all the technique I had, I often felt disconnected — from the music, from my body, and from my own creativity. Tension and nerves were constant companions and often took the joy and accuracy out of my playing.

Everything changed for me when I began exploring yoga, somatic awareness, and mind-body approaches. T I realized that learning music doesn’t have to be rigid or rooted in pressure. It can be playful, expressive, and even healing.

That epiphany became the foundation of CelloYoga™, where I now support adults of all levels — from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals and educators — in building a more connected, sustainable, and personally meaningful music practice.

In my world, music is about more than playing the right notes. It’s about discovering your voice, reclaiming your joy, and making music that feels like you.

I can't wait to meet you one of our workshops soon!

Your #1 fan,

-Mea

Thank you for your emphasis on one-point practice as a way to make faster progress. I was always multi-tasking and trying to do too many things and as a result nothing was sounding better and I was experiencing lots of frustration. Now I focus on one thing at a time and I am learning music much faster!” -Alison

I have played cello for several years. After a short time as Marion’s student, I am already understanding much more about the technical aspects of cello and their importance towards better playing. Through her emphasis on posture, hand shape and instrument position, Marion has already helped me to achieve a better tone and sound in my playing”

“Very helpful.. a good way to avoid issues, strengthen and relax the muscles. I have knee arthritis so sitting for a long time becomes very painful...Your movements remind me of thai-chi”

For the past 3.5 months I have been in Mea's program and I must say it is outstanding. She can related to multiple levels of cello-ing at once and teaches in small segments then moves on to something else, then she recycles back again over time. This program can take your playing level up and up. When anyone has a question in class, she takes us all to a different level of thinking and eventually playing. And she is totally respectful of how our brains work in learning new materials, always encouraging. I highly recommend studying in her group platform.

Mea's cello program is excellent. I highly recommend it for its engaging style, accessibility, pedagogy and rigour. Mea is herself a wonderful musician and her commitment to her practice and her students is wonderfully motivating and encouraging. I am speaking as a beginner cellist whose uphill climb remains steep and full of challenges. She appeals to experienced cellists as well, as her pedagogical style can cover the spectrum to those who are learning basic skills to those who are fine tuning their developed skills and expertise.
